Technology aboard new trains calls for specialist skills to ensure that the various electrical and electronic systems are properly maintained – and efficiently exchanged if serious faults are found.
For its Class 800/801/802 trains coming into service under the Intercity Express Programme, Hitachi has commissioned Multipulse to develop portable training rigs so that maintenance staff are fully able to diagnose and deal with problems.
John Fitzsimons, Multipulse managing director, says: “Modern trains rely on complex electronic systems for safe and efficient operation, as well as for passenger information and connectivity. The training rigs will permit hands-on instruction on all the key systems aboard the IEP trains.”
Typically, the rigs will cover areas such as CCTV, passenger information systems and wi-fi.
Multipulse is no stranger to instruction kits, having in recent years developed a fully portable system for GSM-R training and competence testing – specially for drivers at remote depots.
